This year we planted the greenhouse and the garden. The raspberries, strawberries, potatoes and beans are growing! It’s amazing the way plants grow. They grow up. They grow quickly. They grow toward the sun. It’s normal and natural for growth to take place. What is freedom? Freedom is the opportunity to worship God as we deem best. Many in history attempted to suppress this basic human desire. Stalin killed seventeen million people. Mao killed forty-nine million (the Great Leap Forward and the Cultural Revolution). The deepest human hunger is the desire to seek God. In August of 1620 one hundred and two people left England for America in the Mayflower. They landed at Plymouth Rock in Massachusetts. Half the colony failed to survive the first winter but the remainder lived on and prospered. For me freedom is the ability to worship God in the Person of Jesus Christ as defined in the Bible. As it is normal for plants to grow up and seek the sun so the most basic human freedom is the opportunity to look up and worship God in the Person of His Son. |
